Our Philosophy
At Phoebus Tutors, we believe every student deserves to feel confident in their learning and empowered to achieve their potential — both in exams and beyond.
Our Story
Our founders met at Christ Church, Oxford, united by a love of learning and teaching.
After a combined 10 years in the private tutoring industry, we found that most agencies seemed obsessed with exams, grades, and ticking boxes. While results matter, something essential was being lost—curiosity, enjoyment, and a genuine understanding of the subject.
We founded Phoebus Tutors (named after the Greek god of knowledge, Apollo), to do things differently. Learning should be more than memorising facts or drilling past papers—it should be about asking questions, making connections, and discovering the “why” behind the answers. When students enjoy what they’re learning, they not only achieve better results but also build confidence and skills that last far beyond the classroom.
That’s why our approach puts deep understanding and enjoyment at the heart of every lesson. Exams are just one milestone on the journey—we want to equip students with the tools and curiosity to keep learning for life.
Our Values
Curiosity First: We encourage students to ask “why?” and “how?”—because real learning begins with curiosity, not memorisation.
Deep Understanding: Our focus is on grasping concepts, not just recalling facts. When students truly understand, they can apply their knowledge anywhere.
Joy in Learning: We believe learning should feel rewarding and enjoyable. A positive experience builds confidence and sparks lifelong interest.
Confidence through Mastery: By breaking down ideas into clear steps, we help students see their progress and grow in self-belief.
Beyond the Exam: Grades matter, but education should prepare students for more than tests—it should equip them for life, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Personalised Growth: Every student learns differently. We adapt to individual needs so each learner can thrive in their own way.
Our Pledge
We pledge to nurture thinkers, not just test-takers. Every lesson is designed to spark interest, build understanding, and help students grow into independent learners who enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
